Lidl will be Brentford’s second supermarket after Morrisons

Hounslow Council has approved plans to build a Lidl in Brentford.

The development is expected to create 40 new jobs in the area. The exact address of the site has not yet been confirmed but it is thought the site will be close by to the former Morrisons on Brentford High Street.

The new store will feature Lidl’s usual amenities, including its award-winning bakery, the ‘Middle of Lidl’ section, customer toilets with baby changing facilities, and parking for both cars and bicycles.

This will be Brentford’s first Lidl and second large supermarket, the other being Morrisons.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Grant Shulton, said:

“We’re delighted to have secured planning approval from Hounslow Council for our first store in Brentford, Demand for Lidl products continues to rise in the capital, which is why we’re committed to making sure that everyone, no matter where they live, has access to high-quality food at the best value. We look forward to keeping the community updated as we progress with our plans.”

Lidl is the seventh biggest supermarket chain in the UK, according to the European Supermarket Magazine.

The German supermarket chain celebrated its 30th anniversary this year and expects to open 1,100 new stores by the end of 2025.
