Chiswick School 75% achieve A*-B grades

Students from schools and colleges across Hounslow have received their A-Level results, with a collective pass rate of 98.3%

For the first time in two years, the grades are based on examination performance rather than teacher assessment. For these students this was their first experience of sitting public examinations, given that two years ago they saw their GCSE examinations cancelled because of lockdown restrictions associated with the pandemic

Chiswick School said they had an “astonishing” results day which saw 46% of students achieve A*-A grades and 75% achieve A*-B grades, significantly above the national average. Level 3 vocational students similar performed well, with 61% of vocational grades Distinction*-Distinction. Set against a national backdrop where results are expected to be lower after two years of record increases, Chiswick School said this represented a remarkable achievement.

Chiswick School said these results showed students were up for the challenges of the first set of public examinations post Covid restrictions, saying they reflect how hard students and staff have worked to ensure that excellent outcomes were achieved.

Students’ destinations include five students progressing to Oxford or Cambridge plus an array of Russell Group universities, apprenticeships, employment and gap years spent volunteering and travelling. Head Students Cameron and Lily are both heading to their first choice universities in September. Cameron to University of Oxford to study Law after obtaining A*AAA and Lily to University of Manchester to study Psychology after obtaining ABB.

Results represent “hard work work and determination”

Headteacher Laura Ellener said:

“Students, teachers and leaders have gone above and beyond over the last two years. These results represent this hard work and determination. Our aim has always been to provide students with an amazing place to learn and to become one of the best schools in the country.”

Cllr Lily Bath, Cabinet Member for Children, Learning and Employment, said:

“I want to congratulate every student in Hounslow receiving A-Level results, despite the challenges and disruption to education over the last few years you have remained focused and determined to succeed.

“Having never sat a public examination before these results are an even bigger achievement. They are a testament to the hard work of students and our brilliant schools and teachers that continue to deliver high standards of teaching, recognised by the results each year and Ofsted rating every school in the borough ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’.”
