Hounslow Council’s £20 ShopLocal voucher scheme has been extended until Christmas Eve, following its popularity with residents and businesses.
In September LB Hounslow despatched £20 vouchers to every household in the borough to help the local economy recover from the impact of Covid-19. According to feedback received, the vouchers have brought residents back into local shopping areas.
Hounslow households received a unique code by post and recipients can spend the voucher on products or services at a range of businesses including cafes, cinemas, restaurants, health and wellbeing organisations, laundrettes and retailers of all sorts. The scheme was due to end on 7 December but households who have not already used their voucher will now be able to do so at participating businesses throughout the Christmas shopping period.
The initiative, funded by the Governments Covid-19 Additional Restrictions Grant and in partnership with Evouchers, has more than 400 local independent businesses participating in LB Hounslow.
From Monday (15 November), households which have not yet spent their voucher will receive another copy of the voucher in case the original has been lost or damaged. The unique QR code will be the same and will still be valid tfor single use only.

Voucher extension to give ‘extra boost’ to residents over Christmas
Chiswick businesses have told The Chiswick Calendar that the scheme has brought them new customers.
Fiona Wallis, owner of Snapdragon toyshop on Turnham Green Terrace, told The Chiswick Calendar the vouchers had made a big difference to her. They had been attracting customers to her shop from further afield – people who told her they had forgotten about the toyshop until they saw it on the list of businesses taking part in the scheme.
Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council said:
“It has been fantastic hearing from residents where they have been spending their vouchers, and from business owners about the positive impact it’s having on encouraging everyone to return to the high street and shop locally. The extension of the voucher will give an extra boost to everyone as we approach Christmas.
“The added funds and exposure provided to independent businesses from this initiative has been vital in kickstarting our boroughs recovery and we will continue to support residents and businesses. I hope the voucher has inspired everyone in the borough to make the commitment to continue shopping locally.”
Cllr Shantanu Rajawat, Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services said:
“With Christmas just around the corner it’s fantastic to see so many people using the voucher and supporting independent traders.
“Small Business Saturday will provide a great opportunity to showcase our wonderful local businesses while injecting important funds into the local economy, which is even more important after the months of additional pressure caused by the pandemic.
“The wide range of small businesses in Hounslow helps to bring our vibrant borough to life. We are committed to supporting local businesses all year round, not just with the ShopLocal Voucher or in the lead up to Christmas. Protecting the Hounslow pound helps keep our local economy flourishing.”
