A-M of Christmas present buying ideas from local, independent traders
Antiques – Strand Antiques
Run by Ann Brown for 45 years the four antiques dealers who share the space have just been joined by Vanessa Costello, sold antiquities initially and branched out into antiques later on. She had a stall at the Olympia Art & Antiques Fair for many years. Among her stock is militaria, including cap badges recovered from Dunkirk, and antiquities, including Ming dynasty ceramic figures.
Art – The Chiswick Calendar Art Directory
In Chiswick we are lucky to have a number of professional artists who live locally. While most have their work on display in galleries and exhibitions, they are also happy to sell from home and to arrange viewings by appointment.
Beds and Bedding – Naturalmat
Founders Mark Tremlett and Peter Tindall both sail and hated the synthetic mattresses found on most yachts. So they started hand-making natural fibre products that wouldn’t sweat and would fit in a boat’s awkward spaces. But after the birth of Mark’s first child, we had a light bulb moment. Why not devote the same clever thinking to baby mattresses? After all, little ones deserve a good night’s sleep too – not to mention the lovely, breathable qualities of an entirely natural product. And with that, Naturalmat was born.
They only use natural materials like organic lambswool from local sheep. And make all their products by hand in a factory surrounded by green fields and mooing cows.
