Broadcaster Jeremy Vine has a camera covering the front of his house in Chiswick and has worked out exactly how a thief stole one of his Christmas parcels.
Working in television and being handy in an edit suite, Jeremy has cut together footage of the delivery man and the thief from different angles showing how he made off with a delivery from DHL.
“Lesson learned” says Jeremy. He had told the delivery man to put it in a large wooden box in the front garden if there was no one in. The thief was evidently following the delivery van on his bike, as he strolled in a few minutes later and took the parcel out of the box, then casually rang the doorbell to make it look as if he were the delivery man and to check there was no one in.
When no one answered the door he walked out of the garden, hopped on his bike and went on his way.
I got hit by a Porch Pirate a couple of days ago. At 1125 the @dhlexpressuk guy leaves a delivery in an agreed place; at 1207 the Pirate appears. Is he following the van around? He knew exactly where to go. Parcel stolen, box found ripped open 100yds away by kind neighbour pic.twitter.com/sq9tHu8OFZ

The thief reckoned without Jeremy and his 774,000 Twitter followers. Up till time of writing the video has been watched 57,000 times.
