Jeweller’s in Richmond hit in smash and grab raid

A jeweller’s shop was robbed in broad daylight in Richmond on Saturday 31 January.

Burglars were caught on camera robbing Gregory & Co jewellers at 10.30 in the morning by a woman in a cafe opposite the shop. She posted the video on social media and two men dressed in black, wearing face coverings, can be seen, one smashing in the window with a sledge hammer while the other holds open a blue bag.

They peel back the shattered glass and sweep the jeweller into the bag while shop assistants inside can be seen trying to swat their arms away and pulling the jewellery in the window inside the shop.

After a few seconds the men run off along the alleyway, Paved Court, which is full of busy boutiques and cafes.

Second jewellery robbery in three days

This is the second robbery of a jewellery shop in west London in three days. The Metropolitan Police is also appealing for witnesses to the robbery of Sultan jewellers in Shepherd’s Bush in the early hours of Thursday morning (29 January).

Police warned jewellers on Wednesday to be on high alert against burglary, as there had been an increase in thefts of gold and cash, both from homes and from commercial premises. They say jewellers are a particular target at the moment because the price of gold is at a record high.

Police announced on Friday they had charged a man in connection with the Shepherd’s Bush robbery. Jason Daley, 33 of Priory Park Road, Brent, was charged with burglary and criminal damage.
