Jo Coburn appears as HIGNFY panellist with Paul Merton

Jo Coburn made an appearance on Have I Got News for You in the latest edition, broadcast on 29 May.

She was introduced by Katherine Ryan as ‘’the broadcaster and journalist who appeared for years on the BBC’s Daily Politics as Andrew Neil’s carer, sorry co-presenter’’.

The Chiswick resident who left the BBC last year to present a show on Times Radio brought her extensive knowledge of politics to bear on the main story: Scottish National Party former CEO Peter Murrell pleading guilty to embezzling more than £400,00 from SNP.

Nicola Stugeon, former SNP party leader and first minister, says she knew nothing about it and was “deceived, betrayed and lied to” by her estranged husband.

As the show paraded to assortment of consumer goods he had bought with the money, including two hair dryers, three expensive coffee machines and a £100 pencil sharpener, in a Generation Game style presentation, Paul Merton and Ian Hislop’s teams mocked Nichola Sturgeon’s claim to have known nothing about it.

Her husband had bought a camper van which he left parked on the driveway of his mother’s house in Dunfermline.

“Just shows how often she visited her mother-in-law”, Jo observed tartly.

I love it when journalists like Jo and Clive Myrie appear off the leash from their day job and get a chance to show off how witty they are. Hope she becomes a regular.
