Jo Pratt to run Student SOS cooking classes for new undergraduates at Divertimenti Knightsbridge
The cookbook author’s September sessions cover budgeting, kitchen basics and shared-kitchen etiquette for teenagers heading off to university
On Tuesday 8 September and Thursday 10 September, Jo Pratt, award-winning author of several cookbooks, will be running cooking classes at Divertimenti Knightsbridge aimed at those now beginning to leave school and head into the adult world at university.
For 5 hours on both of these days, between 11:00 and 16:00, Jo plans to cover essential skills that young adults will require as part of their uni life. Along with their newly gained independence, students require a boost in confidence to be able to begin to look after themselves sufficiently.
These classes aim to improve confidence in cooking, which is a majorly important life skill.
Skills such as budgeting and being resourceful are vital in the next stage of education and Jo intends to ensure that teens can head off with these skills in their back pockets.
Also, many students will have shared kitchens and limited equipment, these classes will make clear what equipment is necessary and how to work well without an extensive supply.
Jo has two children of her own, one of whom is headed to university later this year, so she is especially passionate about ensuring that young adults have the basic skills and knowledge they need to be able to cook for themselves.
As well as learning to cook simple yet nutritious recipes, students will acquire the ability to build a practical store cupboard with useful ingredients and learn how to cook good meals on a student budget.
Reliance on takeaways and ready meals is not a sustainable system and most definitely not as nutritious as a home cooked meal.
With Pratt’s course, students will begin to rely on themselves more and it is a perfect step to help them with their new-found independence and reaching the next stages of life as they head into adulthood.
Classes can be tailored to the dietary requirements of those attending and should be entered during booking, you can see more information and book tickets here.
