About Julia Everett
Julia is an abstract seascape painter who lives near the Thames in Hammersmith and works from a studio on Goldhawk Road. Her use of vivid colours, combined with the influence of music, produce vibrant and ethereal paintings. Julia always paints to music and feels that this has a strong influence on the finished work. Julia graduated in Fine Art at Brighton University and has successfully exhibited in Britain, Europe and America and many of her paintings are in private collections around the world. Her latest series of abstract seascapes are inspired by the light, colour and reflections on the sea in Cornwall and Ireland. She has recently been listening to rock and folk music whilst painting and has chosen song lyrics from John Martyn, Van Morrison, Johnny Flynn, The Waterboys and John Lennon amongst others to title her recent paintings.
When describing her work Julia says: “Many of my paintings are inspired by light on water. I have always loved the sea and my childhood holidays were spent in a caravan in Wales, where we spent a lot of time on beautiful windswept beaches looking at the ocean and sheltering from the British Summer. I always knew I wanted to be an artist and I went to college in Brighton to do my BA in Fine Art, where my love of the sea grew. Now I try and spend as much free time as I can contemplating the coast, despite living in London! The Welsh coastline is still very special to me, as is Cornwall, which is now one of my favourite places in the whole world to visit and watch the light change on the sea. Many of my paintings are inspired by Prussia Cove in the wild West of Cornwall, a place I return to year after year. I always paint from memory not life and music is very important to my artistic process. I get inspired by what I’m listening to when I work and I feel that a snippet of a song lyric as a title gives the painting extra depth. Lyrics often jump out at me when I’m painting and seem to fit the artwork perfectly!
