Chiswick Auctions – Islamic Art

Wednesday 22 July at 1.00pm

As part of ‘The Summer Sale Season’ Chiswick Auctions latest Single Owner Collection sale focuses on the Arts of Iran. The artworks in this collection have been passionately and carefully collected by an important private european collector over a period of 40 to 50 years. The collection started taking shape between the 1970s and 1980s, when the collector was an eager and determined bidder in renowned salerooms such as Christie’s, Sotheby’s and many more across Europe, the UK and the United States.

These were considered to be unusual times to build a collection of Islamic and Iranian art in Europe, as most collectors’ tastes were focused towards the Western artistic heritage.

The sale will offer over 120 lots, most of which have not been seen in the market before and have been kept in private hands since their purchase. The variety of media and the chronological span covered by the collection are impressive. The focus is primarily the art produced in the Iranian lands, with the collection featuring artworks dating from 9th – 20th century, including paintings, manuscripts, lacquer, gold-damascened steel, textiles, ceramics, jewellery and ancient glass.

Chiswick Auctions can offer virtual or in-person viewings by appointment only. The in-person viewings adhere to social distancing to ensure the safety of both Chiswick Auctions clients and staff.

The sale will take place on Wednesday 22 July at 1.00pm.
