London Transport Museum open days at Acton Town depot

The chance to explore 200 years of London’s transport history through the thousands of objects in London Transport Museum’s collection

London Transport Museum is hosting its first Depot open days event of the year this weekend (9-12 April 2026), inviting the public to go behind the scenes of its working collection store in Acton Town.

It is a rare chance to explore a transport treasure trove that is only open to the public on select dates throughout the year.

London Transport is celebrating several big milestones in 2026: 120 years of the Piccadilly line, 120 years of the Bakerloo line.

The Museum has a vast collection of more than 320,000 objects that it is not able to display at the Covent Garden Museum, which it keeps at the Acton Town depot.

Visitors will discover how London’s transport has shaped the city over the past 200 years, from the iconic roundel and Harry Beck’s pioneering Underground map to famous red buses and black cabs.

Over the next four days the Museum has a programme of talks and events, as well as hands-on family activities, displays of historic vehicles and heritage demonstrations. There will also be music, and food and drink on sale.

Visitors can climb aboard historic trains such as the 1927 standard stock and 1938 stock, get up close to the pioneering RM1 and RM2 buses and explore rare signalling equipment, models, maps, station architecture and the Museum’s world-renowned art and poster collection.

The Depot is also home to the London Transport Miniature Railway, a working miniature railway based on real London Underground locomotives, carriages, signals and signs run by our volunteers, which will be operational on Saturday and Sunday.

Adult tickets cost £19; Children’s tickets £10. Children aged three and under go free. Concessions available for local residents in Ealing and Hounslow.

£1 tickets are available to visitors in receipt of Universal Credit and Pension Credit

The Museum holds open days three times a year so visitors can view the collection of road and rail vehicles, signs, ceramic tiles, original posters, ticket machines, and ephemera.

If you are not able to visit this weekend, the next opportunity will be in July (Friday 3 – Saturday 5 July) and the final one of the year in September (Friday 18 – Sunday 20 September).
