About Madeleine Marsh
Madeleine is an artist who specialises in making jewellery and sculpture. Her creations are typically one-off pieces inspired by history, recycling and the river. For many years she has been a mudlark, collecting finds from the Thames and transforming them into works of art and jewellery. A necklace might contain some 500 years of pottery, recording the everyday lives of Londoners across the centuries and each creation is unique. As well as using found objects (river finds, sea glass, small antiquities) she also makes jewellery celebrating remarkable women in history from the queens of Jazz, to female scientists to crime writers. Her sculptural themes range from mermaids and suffragettes to animals. Her artwork often involves a sense of humour and in every medium she expresses a love of life and the pleasure of story-telling.
