A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of five people, following the incident on Saturday (27 June) which left several pedestrians injured after a car ploughed into them in Ealing Broadway.

Ahmed Timir, 34, of Grange Park, Ealing, is alleged to have driven through a pedestrian crossing, striking multiple people who suffered injuries including broken facial bones and a broken pelvis, a court heard.

Press Association reporter Jordan Reynolds reports that Kate Fassam-Wright, prosecuting, told Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Monday that Ahmed Timir had approached a signal controlled pedestrian crossing on Ealing Broadway in a white Seat Leon, when the traffic light was red and a large number of pedestrians were crossing.

“At this point the defendant accelerated, undertook stationary traffic on the near side and drove directly through the crossing into the pedestrians striking multiple individuals”, she told the court.

Several victims were “projected into the air causing serious injuries including broken facial bones and a broken pelvis”.

The accused is alleged to have continued driving, crashing into a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Prius at a junction, then driven away.

Police stopped the car on Warwick Road, and he was subsequently charged with five counts of attempted murder, as well as dangerous driving, failing to stop, failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis and criminal damage.

The defendant, who was wearing a grey T-shirt and only spoke to confirm his identity, was remanded into custody by chair of the bench Caroline Walsh and told he will next appear at the Old Bailey on 27 July.
