Move date agreed for Chiswick Post Office

New Post Office service counters will open in Robert Dyas store at the end of August

A moving date has been agreed for the relocation of Chiswick Post Office to Robert Dyas, at 326 Chiswick High Road.

The current branch at 1 Heathfield Terrace has been operated by a temporary postmaster on the Post Office’s behalf and will close on Wednesday 26 August at 5.30 pm. The Post Office plans to redevelop the site.

The new Post Office will be three service counters inside the hardware shop, which are due to open to the public on Friday 28 August at 12.00 noon. The store is part of the Rymans Group, which is a well-established retail partner with Post Office.

‘We remain confident that the layout and location of the new branch will continue to meet customer needs and deliver an excellent service whilst securing the long-term viability of Post Office services in the local community’, the Post Office said when they confirmed the decision at the end of last month.

Three service counters offering fewer services but open for more hours

Chiswick Post Office was closed suddenly last summer, without notice, and remained closed for four months. Since that happened its future has been in doubt.

Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith & Chiswick, commented:

“Good to see Chiswick Post Office will have a permanent base on Chiswick High Road. At a time when many branches are closing this is a good result achieved with the help of the whole local community”.

The space inside Robert Dyas will be smaller than the floorspace they currently occupy and there are some services the new Post Office counters will no longer offer.

Customers will no longer be able to access parcel drop off and collection by Evri. The Post Office will no longer offer a paper check of new passport applications and renewals or a document certification service, or DVLA photocard renewal. They will no longer handle Western Union transactions either.

To access those services over the counter, customers will have to go to Shepherd’s Bush Post Office, Unit 1087-1088 at Westfield Shopping Centre.

The new Post Office will however be open for longer than the current one. Opening hours will be Monday – Saturday from 09.00 am – 6.00 pm, closed Sundays.

The current Post Office is open Monday – Friday from 09.00 am – 5.30 pm and 09.00 am – 2.30 pm on Saturdays, closed Sundays.

In a statement published today the Post Office said:
