New restaurant taking shape in former Silver Birch premises on Chiswick High Road
142 Chiswick High Road
All day dining and a new wine room in the basement
Signs of life at 142 Chiswick High Road. A pile of scaffolding has appeared outside the premises where fine dining restaurant Silver Birch closed earlier this year, and contractors were busy inside on Friday (5 September).
A company called Brook & Green have created a new Instagram account promising:
‘Your new neighbourhood spot on Chiswick High Road – Breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks – Wine room downstairs from 5pm’.
Reports in the hospitality trade press have more detail.
The Staff Canteen reports Brook & Green is planning 49 covers on the ground floor, 14 on the terrace and 26 in a newly developed wine room downstairs, ‘built around Brook & Green’s own working wine collection’, and adds:
‘Chiswick High Road has long been one of London’s most reliable neighbourhood catchments, affluent, residential and driven by repeat local use rather than destination trade, and Brook & Green has been conceived to serve that demand directly, built for regular, all-day use rather than a single occasion’.
The restaurant website says the new restaurant will be run by Tim Price, who owned Silver Birch, and will operate as ‘a more casual alternative to his fine dining restaurant’
They report Brook & Green will serve an all-day menu drawing on Mediterranean, Asian and British influences and has been ‘built for consistency and repeat use rather than occasion-only dining’.
They quote Tim Price saying:
“This isn’t about building a name around one person or one kitchen, it’s about building a restaurant Chiswick will use every week, for years”.
Silver Birch’s reputation was built on the reputation of its chef Nathan Cornwell. It was considered one of the best restaurants in London and he was tipped for a Michelin star, but that comes at a price and was not enough to save it .
