What’s new and good to read this month? Annakarin Klerfalk has a look at what’s on offer and chooses The Stranger in the Lifeboat, Lily and Walking on Sunshine are all published in November.

The Stranger in the Lifeboat

Mitch Albom, best known as the author of Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People you Meet in Heaven, is back with The Stranger in the Lifeboat.

Ten strangers survive a terrible shipwreck and whilst adrift, waiting to be rescued, they see a man floating on the waves. They pull him onboard and get another surprise when he claims that he can save them all. Can they trust him? And will they ever come home again?

Readers will discover yet another deeply moving novel from Albom about love and hope in a dangerous situation which keeps you guessing until the very end.

Publishers Weekly reviewed it as “Painfully sad and beautiful, this is an absolute tearjerker.”

The Stranger in the Lifeboat is published by Little, Brown Book Group on 2 November.

Lily

Rose Tremain’s latest book is called Lily and has been pitched as a “Victorian melodrama.”

Lily is abandoned by her mother – on a winter’s night – in 1850, but rescued in time by a young police officer. She is looked after at the Foundling hospital before being taken by a farming family in Suffolk, but her childhood comes to a harsh end when she is punished for being rebellious and she is soon back in Victorian London.

Lily starts working at Belle Prettywood’s Wig Emporium, where nobody knows that she’s hiding a terrible secret. When Lily meets the police officer, Sam, who saved her all those years ago, there’s instant attraction between them – and Lily thinks that she will be happy with him but will he also be the one who uncovers her past?

Rose Tremain was made CBE in 2007 and a Dame in 2020. Her books have been published in thirty countries and have won many awards.

Lily will be released by Vintage Publishing on 11 November.

Walking on Sunshine

Giovanna Fletcher is one of the UK’s most successful women’s fiction authors. She is also a podcast creator and has written two non-fiction books about parenting and motherhood.

Her latest novel, Walking on Sunshine, tells the story of Mike, who har lost his partner, Pia, of seven-teen years. Their best friends, Vicky and Zaza, do their best to support Mike but it’s the list that Pia left behind that helps them all. The instructions on the list sends them to the high mountains in Peru, where things start to feel brighter.

Bestselling Author Miranda Dickinson reviewed it as “A gorgeously, gloriously romantic read with buckets of charm – I absolutely loved it!”

Walking on Sunshine is one of Michael Joseph’s biggest hardback publications this year and is released on 11 November.
