On the trail of creative art in Brentford

Last weekend local artists and creatives popped up in 24 venues to exhibit their splendid art. They were waiting to be discovered in small, tucked away studios, in workshops down tiny alleyways, in clapperboard lofts up old, iron staircases, on previously closed off islands, in historic, old buildings and museums as well as diverse independent restaurants and bars.

Creating an adventure for visitors ready to explore the narrow pathways, iron stairways and bridges, not knowing what mysteries lay ahead and what inspiring new images might be revealed.

Who knew there were so many diverse artists in Brentford? It was great to see so many unique and impressive artworks from painters, ceramicists, hat makers and jewellery makers to musicians, designers and printers. Presumably, these close creative quarters were positively encouraging collaboration amongst artists and enhancing new friendships, whilst generously sharing with visitors.

As the trail followed the meandering Thames, our minds wandered too through its historic, industrial past to the current, vibrant, modern riverside community with its versions of Sam’s, Gails and Everyman. Sadly, sections of the other side of the high street now appear incongruous with their urban and run down 1960s style buildings.

Thank you to Creative Mile, the not-for-profit Community Interest Company, for revealing Brentford’s hidden artists, by connecting venues with artists, and organising the whole event. What a pity it’s only an annual event.
