Series of portraits of Polish women by artist and ethnographer Anna Jochymek

An outdoor exhibition of portrait photographs will be on display on Turnham Green this summer.

Free. Her, by the Polish born artist and ethnographer Anna Jochymek, is billed as ‘an outdoor exhibition of photographic portraits exploring freedom’, created during conversations between Anna and Polish migrant women based in or connected to the London borough of Hounslow.

Migration stories

‘During their photographic sessions with artist, the women shared details of their journey, challenges, and what has empowered them as women and migrants in the UK’ say Watermans, the arts trust which has organised the exhibition.

‘The resulting photographs and testimonies create a powerful portrait of the local community, exploring what freedom means to women today, through their own words, histories, and identities’.

The series of 20 large-format photographic portraits mounted on wire stands has already been shown outdoors in Brentford Market Place and Bell Square in Hounslow last year, as part of the Future Arts Centres project, Our Freedom: Then and Now, itself part of a £2 million national creative programme marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and supported by the UK Government through Arts Council England.

The exhibition has also been shown indoors at Gunnersbury Park Museum in February of this year.

It will make an interesting change from funfairs and football practice, which the Green is usually used for.
