Houses and flats providing 149 homes on site of former football ground

The plan to redevelop the site of Brentford FC’s old football ground at Griffin Park has been given the go-ahead.

The scheme, to turn the ground into a residential complex providing 149 homes: 41 houses, a four-storey apartment block and two six-story blocks, was approved by Hounslow’s Planning Committee on Thursday 4 September, in line with approval by the Council’s Planning department.

The development has been designed by HTA Design in partnership with EcoWorld London.

‘High design quality’

The planners say the scheme is of ‘high design quality, suited to the existing site and surroundings and would provide a high standard of residential accommodation’.

There were a number of objections ranging from the number of dwellings to their height and the materials used, the loss of light to neighbouring properties and the impact on car parking in adjacent roads, but the planners recommended that the development was of an appropriate height, scale and design and should go ahead.

Passed unanimously

The councillors on the Planning committee accepted the plans unanimously and without amendment.

The site is just south of a huge development along the Great West Corridor which was agreed at the same planning meeting.
