Plans for 2,300 new homes in a landscape connecting Brentford High Street to Boston Manor Park

A developer has submitted a planning application to Hounslow Council to redevelop the site of the former GSK headquarters at 980 Great West Road in Brentford.

Hadley Property Group is planning a mixed-use neighbourhood with 2,300 new homes of different sorts, including build-to-rent, co-living and student accommodation, with 35% allocated as ‘affordable housing’, and over 320,000 square feet of commercial, retail and community development.

The pharmaceutical giant GSK left its Brentford headquarters in July last year, relocating around 3,000 employees to a new central London office. The company sold the Brentford site in 2021 and moved its staff out in stages, after occupying the site for more than two decades.

The existing GSK building is a stunning piece of architecture, which dominates the approach to London from the M4. The property company, which bought the site two years ago, plans to retain and adapt two major buildings from the original campus, including the landmark tower.

Hadley says its plan will open up a previously closed site and reconnect it with Brentford High Street and also with Boston Manor Park and the River Brent:

‘Our vision is to bring forward a masterplan that reflects and complements the changing landscape of Brentford, delivering a mixed-use neighbourhood with a range of new public spaces, community amenities, commercial offerings and employment opportunities’.

Hadley is working alongside architects Haworth Tompkins, Metropolitan Workshop, Studio Egret West and dRMM to deliver the scheme.
