Moving into Robert Dyas secures ‘the long-term viability of Post Office services’ in Chiswick, says Post Office

The Post Office says ‘after careful consideration of the feedback received’ they have decided to move Chiswick Post Office to an area of floorspace inside the Robert Dyas shop on Chiswick High Road, as a permanent arrangement.

‘We remain confident that the layout and location of the new branch will continue to meet customer needs and deliver an excellent service’, they say, ‘whilst securing the long-term viability of Post Office services in the local community’.

Chiswick Post Office was closed suddenly last summer, without notice, and remained closed for four  months. The Post Office wants to sell the current premises on Heathfield Terrace and had been looking for a permanent sub-postmaster, who they have now found.

The new branch ‘will continue to meet customer needs and deliver an excellent service, whilst securing the long-term viability of Post Office services in the local community’, they say.

Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith & Chiswick, commented:

“Good to see Chiswick Post Office will have a permanent base on Chiswick High Road. At a time when many branches are closing this is a good result achieved with the help of the whole local community”.

The space inside Robert Dyas will be smaller than the floorspace they currently occupy and there are some services the new Post Office counters will no longer offer.

Customers will no longer be able to access parcel drop off and collection by Evri. The Post Office will no longer offer a paper check of new passport applications and renewals or a document certification service, or DVLA photocard renewal. They will no longer handle Western Union transactions either.

To access those services over the counter, customers will have to go to Shepherd’s Bush Post Office.

The new Post Office will however be open for longer than the current one. Opening hours will be Monday – Saturday from 09.00 am – 6.00 pm, closed Sundays.

The current Post Office is open Monday – Friday from 09.00 am – 5.30 pm and 09.00 am – 2.30 pm on Saturdays, closed Sundays.

The Post Office says the shop refit to create three service positions within the hardware store will take place soon.

‘We are currently making the final arrangements for the move, and we will then share the dates for relocation’.
