Power cut affects part of Chiswick Friday 6 March

Unplanned power cut meant 1500 people were without power for two hours in the afternoon

A power cut affected parts of Chiswick today (Friday 6 March). SSEN say 1531 customers were affected in Grove Park covering seven postcodes: W4 4EJ, W4 4EL, W4 4LA, W4 4LD, W4 4LE, W4 4LG, W4 4LQ.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks posted:

‘We are sorry about the power cut in the area. The power cut is affecting some properties in the area shown on the map, but not all. This is why you may notice some of your neighbours have power, but you don’t.

‘It is normal to see one in three homes affected. We are working with our engineers to fix the problem as quickly as possible, and will keep you updated here on Powertrack’.

One resident who was affected, who lives just off Sutton Court Road and the A4, lost their power just after 12.30 for a couple of hours. They received a message from SSEN saying it would be back on by 4pm and in fact it was back by 2.30pm. SSEN did not say what had caused it, but the message on their website about unplanned power cuts in general said:

‘You may have noticed your power going on and off. This is nothing to worry about but is being caused by a fault on our network. The typical cause for this issue is that something is touching our overhead network – it is usually a tree branch’.

Their advice was to switch off ‘sensitive’ appliances such as computers and TVs while their engineers sorted it out.
