LB Hounslow are now offering rapid, asymptomatic COVID-19 testing to help reduce the spread of the virus in the borough.
Hounslow currently has a very high rate of infection. Data published on Wednesday 6 January shows that 49 people died of COVID-19 in LB Hounslow in December. That’s almost twice the number who died in November and more than twice the number who died in the previous five months.
About 1 in 3 people with Coronavirus have no symptoms, but can still pass the virus to others without knowing.
Book a test if you have no symptoms
Members of the community with no symptoms can book a free rapid test online via LB Hounslow’s website.
Rapid tests, called ‘lateral flow tests’, give a positive or negative result in 30-40 minutes. They are safe and do not require a laboratory to process the results. Once you have booked an appointment, you will get a confirmation email, explaining where and when to go and also what to bring along with you (such as a face covering). Key workers particularly are encouraged to take the test, but it is available to everyone.
There will be rapid test facilities at five sites across the borough. The first two sites which are open for these pre-booked, rapid test appointments are Hounslow House and Heston Library. The council says the remaining sites are due to open from next week onwards.
Sites will be open from 8.00am-4.00pm, seven days a week, for about six weeks. People can choose which site they prefer to attend to have their test. Once you attended your appointment, you will get your test result by email or text.
For those who don’t have access to the internet, they can call 0207 084 9697 to book a rapid test. You should not to walk up to the testing centres without making a booking, or if you have symptoms of coronavirus.
If you have symptoms
If you have symptoms, such as a high fever, a new continuous cough or a loss of taste or smell you should get a ‘PCR test’ instead, which you can book by following the link below:
Hands, Face, Space
Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said:
“Even if you do not have symptoms, you could still have COVID-19 and be passing on the virus.
If you don’t have any COVID-19 symptoms, book your rapid test online. This will help to reduce the spread of Coronavirus.
But, even with a negative test result, we must all still remember the basics such as ‘Hands, Face, Space’ to keep one another safe.”
