RNLI to host series of Sea Shanty workshops 200th anniversary fundraiser

RNLI invite would-we Sea Shanty singers to celebrate 200 years of the RNLI

Sea shanty enthusiasts and choir members are being encouraged to join a series of workshops along the Thames this autumn in celebration of 200 years of the RNLI.

The two-hour workshops, which will take place in October and November, will be held near Tower Bridge, at St Mary’s Church in Battersea, and at the Teddington RNLI Lifeboat Station. Open to all – from pub choirs to individual enthusiasts – participants will have the chance to learn and perform sea shanties in a fun and informal setting.

After the workshops, attendees will be invited to perform at a public concert on 2 November at the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington, headlined by The Monkeyfists. They will be joined by the Landmark’s own choir for what promises to be an unforgettable evening of music.

These fundraising events aim to unite sea shanty fans and supporters of the RNLI. For over two centuries, the RNLI has depended on donations and legacies to continue its lifesaving work across the UK and Ireland. The three Thames RNLI lifeboat stations, which are among the busiest in the country, have been providing their vital service for the past 21 years.
