Roadway “collapsing” at Oxford Road South because of persistent water leaks says Andy Slaughter

Thames Water urged to “get on with” finding the source of the problem and sorting it out

Thames Water will be digging up Oxford Road South to try and sort out the persistent leaks that have been causing flooding.

“They have assessed the situation at Oxford Road South and concluded it is sufficiently bad it needs a road closure”, Andy told The Chiswick Calendar.

There will be parking suspensions and letter drops to inform six properties they will be blocking their driveways in order to complete the repair.

“We are pressing them to get on with this as you can imagine. Apart from the leak it is clear the roadway is collapsing (Hounslow have fenced it off) so it is an urgent matter.

“The problem is that Thames have hundreds of such incidents following the recent freeze – which is their own fault for not maintaining their network adequately.

“I think we all know where they spent our money and it wasn’t on new water pipes.  We have also asked about the history of Oxford Road to see if they should have been better prepared and informed”.

Residents of Oxford Road South also have to put up with one of the worst roads in the borough for potholes, but Amy has now wrung a promise out of the relevant Cabinet Member that they will come and resurface the road in April.

“Thanks to Amy, Hounslow has agreed to completely resurface the road in May (it is Pothole Central)”, said Andy, “but it is obviously essential that the water mains are repaired or replaced before that happens. We have also asked LBH to coordinate with Thames on this.

“I remember that in my first week as an MP in 2005 I dealt with a serious flood caused by a blocked Thames water main outside my then constituency office. They have been a substantial part of my caseload ever since”.
