The Stones have been in Chiswick over the summer for “about two months on and off” at the Metropolis Studios

The Rolling Stones have been in Chiswick over the summer recording what is expected to be their 25th album.

Keith Richards’ son Marlon let the cat out of the bag when he told Record Collector Magazine in September:

“They’re in town right now, recording. “They’re in Chiswick or somewhere like that; I think they’re nearly done. They still maintain these ridiculous hours: after lunch until, like, two in the morning. I’d rather be somewhere else at that time of night! Unless you’re in it, it’s pretty boring.”

Local residents who live near the Metropolis Studios in Chiswick confirm it was there that the band were recording and that they had been spotted dining in Italian restaurant Villa di Geggiano next door.

They were in Chiswick over the summer for “about two months on and off”, one of the local residents told The Chiswick Calendar, “with an apparently leisurely schedule”, adding that he was not sure whether they had finished recording or not.

Songs left over from the last album, Hackney Diamonds

Marlon, himself an actor and producer, said Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood have been recording what will be their 25th album:

“they have enough left over from the last one. They gave them a Grammy, so now they’re all hyped up on that: ‘Oh, yeah – we can do another one like that! We’ve got more like that if you want…’. I think they’re doing the follow-up.”

The last one was Hackney Diamonds, which featured the Stones’ longtime drummer Charlie Watts, who died in 2021.

The album, released in 2023, included guest appearances from Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder and Elton John, as well as former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman, and was the first album of original material from the Stones since A Bigger Bang in 2005.

Hackney Diamonds reached number one in 20 countries, including the UK. It was considered by some critics to be their strongest album in decades and won Best Rock Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.

Mick Jagger confirmed to Reuters last year that there were enough songs recorded during the Hackney Diamond sessions to make another album. He told the international press agency:

“We’ve got a lot more, so I think we may be set up to make another album quite soon.”

Ronnie Wood has now confirmed to the NME that the album is “done” and set for release next year.
