Ruth Cadbury MP ran her fourth marathon on Saturday (6 November), raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Isleworth’s Friends of Cathja, by completing the Thames Meander run from Kingston to Barn Elms and back.
Macmillan Cancer Care supports people with cancer and their families, particularly with end of life care. Ruth has personal experience of their work, as the charity supported Ruth’s sister and her family. Theeir aim is to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support to them and their loved ones.
Friends of Cathja supports people from across Hounslow suffering from enduring mental health problems. The charity is named after the Dutch Barge moored on the Thames in Isleworth which provides creative space for people to engage in art projects in a safe and supported environment.
Ruth had planned to run in the London Marathon in October but was forced to withdraw due to illness.

Ruth ‘delighted’ to raise charity money
Speaking after the race, Ruth said:
‘‘I’ve always loved the opportunity to represent causes both close to my heart, and in the local community, through my running. Although my run on Saturday was a slow time, finishing was a wonderful experience. I was delighted that despite missing the London Marathon this year, I was still able to raise money for these two great causes.
Both Friends of Cathja and Macmillan do a huge amount to support local people and I’d like to thank everyone who supports them and has contributed to my fundraising efforts so far”.
Ruth’s Macmillan and Friends of Cathja fundraising pages are open until the end of November.
