Oh Beehive yourselves…

Whilst Spring seems to have had a false start, then a reset, now that the clocks have gone forward – we are running on all cylinders with the sun on our backs.

Actually, the warm days last month kick started the bees and the recent rain has ensured that there is enough water in the ground for high levels of nectar. One of our hives was bursting at the seams a couple of weeks ago, so I’ve given them an extra box to store their collected nectar in whilst they transform it into honey – this is at least a week earlier than last year.

Early birds might have spotted us recently tasting last year’s honey with TV chef Shivi Ramoutar on Jimmy and Shivi’s Farmhouse Breakfast. Shivi came to Hen Corner to discover what food we were harvesting here in London, especially as most food shows focus on rural food producers. You can watch our feature here.

I’m so excited to be packing up almost everything that moves from our Brentford garden and recreating a taste of Hen Corner at The Edible Garden at this year’s Ideal Home Show. Local Charity, Cultivate London, have been growing veg in their greenhouse and polytunnel to plant up at the show and I’ll be giving daily talks on Bee Keeping, Looking after Chickens and Growing the Good Life.
