Seal dies near Strand On The Green

19 October, 2020 / by Matt Smith

A seal was found dead near Strand On The Green on Monday 19 October, with several concerned members of the public calling in to report the death. There’s been one living by Kew Bridge for some time, known locally as Wayne. Whether this is Wayne, The Chiswick Calendar wouldn’t like to guess.

It’s unclear how the seal died, but Chiswick Lifeboat was quick to Tweet that the body was being dealt with.

‘We’re really sad to hear that one of our (many) water dwelling mates has died near Strand On The Green’ said @ChiswickRNLI.

‘We’re aware, PLA and the London Wildlife Trust have been informed and are taking action. Thanks to members of the public for calling it in’.

Seals are a common sight along the Thames and are often friendly to people. Earlier in summer, a seal joined some paddle boarders for one of their lessons along the river.

More heartening is the news that another larger, black seal was spotted by the RNLI team later in the day. He was catching fish by the lifeboat station.
