Street party returns to Strand on the Green for Tidefest weekend

Free family activities, food from local pubs and a charity tombola on Sunday 6 September

The Strand on the Green Association is holding its street party on Sunday 6 September, as part of this year’s Tidefest. The road will close from 11.30am, with the party running from 1pm to 4pm.

There will be free family activities and games throughout the afternoon, including art, ‘whack the rat’ and games with ping pong balls and bean bags. Brentford and Chiswick History Society will have a display, and there will be citizen science activities.

Food and drink will be on sale from The Bell & Crown and The Steam Packet, with coffee and cakes from Dear Coco and ice cream from Non Solo Gelato. There will also be a tombola in aid of RIANA, a charity based in Chiswick, so residents are being asked to save spare bottles and jars ahead of the day.

Last year’s Tidefest, its 11th, went ahead despite a wet and windy forecast, with new sponsorship from the Port of London Authority securing the festival’s future after its funding had been in doubt. Local MPs Ruth Cadbury and Andy Slaughter joined the Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Amy Croft, on the day, and Slaughter said the catches at the angling championship pointed to ‘an improving wildlife corridor running through the heart of London’.

The street party is just one part of Tidefest’s full day of activities along the river, including angling, kayaking, paddle boarding and a natural history foreshore tour. Full details and the day’s schedule are on the Thames Festival Trust website.
