‘Pavement Pledge’ promises to deliver smoother pavements

One of the biggest issues raised with local councillors is the state of our pavements. The problem with ‘leafy Chiswick’ is that its beautiful street trees have roots, which push up the paving stones and present a trip hazard to the unwary, needing constant upkeep.

Hounslow Council has launched a borough-wide programme to improve pavements and footways.

The initiative, which they are calling their ‘Pavement Pledge’ promises to deliver footway improvement schemes across the borough, in all 22 wards, starting from Monday 21 July 2025.

‘From now through to early 2026, streets across the borough will see resurfaced pavements, safer walking routes, and in some areas, the use of modular paving to retain local character’, say the Council.

‘When combined with the annual maintenance programme, this results in a total of 82 carriageways and footways being addressed this year’, say Hounslow Highways, who carry out the work on their behalf.

Grove Park Road

The pavement programme involves a £2 million investment aimed at enhancing the safety and accessibility of public spaces throughout the borough. Each household on streets due for treatment will receive hand-delivered notices in advance.

Work has begun on Grove Park Road – Hartington Road to Near St Pauls Church in Grove Park and is due to last 26 days.

Later phases will include streets such as The Ridgeway, Chiswick (Swanscombe Road in the Glebe estate, for 20 days beginning 9 October) and Ealing Road, Brentford, with the final scheme due for completion in early 2026 on Kingsley Road, Hounslow.
