Police told residents they may have to evacuate the buildings
Police cordoned off the High Road end of Sutton Court Road in Chiswick for about three quarters of an hour this evening (Friday 10 October) over an area of 400 metres.
There is a car parked outside a residential building near the Town Hall, called Autumn Rise, which they were treating as suspicious.
Ollie Saunders, who was returning home at 9.15pm, told The Chiswick Calendar he was turned back by an officer who he said sounded quite panicky and shouted at him not to drive any nearer.
When he explained he was a resident and told them he was a member of a WhatsApp group of residents, they asked him to tell the other residents to stay away from the windows and be prepared to be evacuated.
A number of police cars arrived and they blocked off the road.
By ten o’clock the panic was over and they were no longer treating the vehicle as suspicious, or at least not as suspicious in the same way.
“It was weird”, Ollie told The Chiswick Calendar. “I’ve never known anything like that before. I was a bit worried”.
Police have now told him the vehicle is full of small packages which they need to search, some of the police have left and the road is open again.
