Tesco on Chiswick High Road to close

Store to close later this year

The Tesco Express on Chiswick High Road will be closing later this year. It is one of several which the supermarket giant is closing in London.

Greenford Road Express was relocated last October and Streatham Crown Express shut permanently in December. Tesco has confirmed they are also closing Paddington Church Street Express and Marble Arch Express.

While these shops have been selected for closure, Tesco is expanding its Express network with an additional 70 convenience stores, including five that were previously Amazon Fresh locations in London. It opened 60 Tesco Express stores last year.

They have not said specifically why they are closing the Chiswick branch, just that they are looking to optimize profitability and simplify operations.

Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith and Chiswick was told about the closure and says:

“Thankfully, I’m told that no jobs will be lost in the closure as staff will be moved to nearby Tesco stores, but I know Chiswick shoppers will be concerned by the closure and what will replace it. I am making enquiries with Tesco about this”.
