Current manager wants to ‘develop’ the pub

The manager of The City Barge at Strand on the Green is planning to turn the pub’s car park into a beer garden.

Nick Ivanov, the acting general manager, told The Chiswick Calendar he has plans to extend the patio on the Thames Road side of the pub into the area currently occupied by cars and put in more outside seating.

Nick is currently running the pub along with two other Greene King pubs as interim manager until a new general manager is found for it.

“I want to put on live music outside”, he told us, “and make it into a nice beer garden”.

He has just been told by Hounslow Council he has to remove the tables and chairs from the riverside because the pub does not have a licence for them, and he has been told he must remove shelves the pub chain had attached to the railings between the towpath and the river, and the chairs beside them.

He has taken down the shelves, accepting that they are Council property and had been put up without permission, but he says as far as he understood it they did not need a licence for tables alongside the pub wall, as the pub owns the 1.5 metres of land adjacent to it on the river side.

The matter is now in the hands of Greene King’s solicitors.

All three pubs along the river at Strand on the Green have been told to remove outside furniture after checks were carried out on their licences at the request of Cllr Rick Rowe.
