New upmarket pub on the site where The Crown used to be

Chiswick has watched with interest as the old Crown pub / restaurant has been given a lick of paint over the past few weeks. A new dining spot is always of interest here and the news that Dominic Jacobs and JKS Restaurants, the upmarket pub group which also owns The George and The Cadogan Arms would be opening a new pub here has been enthusiastically anticipated.

‘The Hound, a new modern-day coaching inn, will officially open its doors in Chiswick on Wednesday 17 July. Housed in the walls of a historic Victorian police station, The Hound will build on the success of its sibling pubs … to become a new drinking and dining destination in West London’ say their PR people.

The premises, well-known to Chiswick diners under several incarnations, has been refurbished, but without any major structural changes. The pub floor looks out onto the covered outside courtyard, offering options for sunny days and showery days and will be open for lunch, dinner and bar snacks seven days a week.

There are two private dining rooms available for hire, the main one seating up to 18 guests in what was once the are of the prison cells.

Given the current preoccupation with the football, potential customers will be pleased to know live sport screenings will be shown on TVs throughout the pub and courtyard, ‘with the private dining room at the back of the pub (‘The Green Room’) benefiting from a large projector screen perfect for group viewing’.

In August, The Hound will open ‘four boutique guest rooms situated above the pub, making it the perfect destination for those looking for a London getaway’, or indeed the perfect get-out for Chiswick residents who have family coming to stay but have nowwhere to put them all.

The food

Now to the most important bit – the food will be provided by Executive Chef John Sparks, working alongside Culinary Director James Knappett of two Michelin-star Kitchen Table in Fitzrovia, ‘serving a diverse menu inspired by British pub classics’.

Drawing on known favourites at The Cadogan Arms and The George, The Hound menu features Black Pudding Scotch Egg with Oxford Sauce, Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Blue Cheese Sauce and Bubbledogs Hot Sauce, and Ham, Egg and Chips with Spiced Pineapple Ketchup.

‘Signature dishes sit alongside new offerings exclusive to The Hound, including Grilled Red Prawns with Chilli & Garlic Gremolata and Focaccia and Salt Cod Croquettes with Lemon Aioli and Coriander.

‘Exclusive hero main dishes will include the Highland Wagyu Hound Dog with Ogleshield Cheese, Sauerkraut, and Charcuterie Sauce, Chicken & Leek Pie with Mashed Potatoes and Buttered Greens and Pea & Ticklemore Risotto with Mint Oil, Toasted Cashews and Lemon. Desserts include Raspberry, Mint & Lemon Eton Mess and Sticky Toffee Pudding.

‘Sunday Roasts include Native Rump of Beef with Bone Marrow Gravy and Horseradish Cream and Shoulder of Lamb with Garlic & Herb Sauce and Gravy. A kids menu will also be available throughout the week, including a Children’s Sunday Roast served with all the trimmings.’

They can certainly talk the talk.

Dominic Jacobs, Managing Director says:

“We are excited to be taking over this historic site in Chiswick, it has long been a cornerstone of the local community and we hope that it will continue to be one, offering a welcoming space for socialising whether for a drink, meal, special occasion or overnight stay.

“Both The Cadogan Arms and The George have embedded themselves in their respective local communities over the past three years and are thriving as a result. It is with the same ambition we hope to launch The Hound.”

We hope you will be embedded too. We like good food in Chiswick.
