Chiswick House Gardens has won three Gold awards in the London in Bloom competition. They won Gold for the overall excellence of the site, Gold for the presentation of the Walled Garden and Gold in the ‘Our Community’ category.
Chiswick House and Gardens Trust also won awards for the volunteers – one for the Kitchen Garden volunteers and one for the ‘Goosefoot volunteers’ (so-called for the shape of the pathways fanning out from a single point).
In the Walled Garden category they tied with Eastcote Gardens for overall category winner.
Co-Chairman of London in Bloom Peter Holman told The Chiswick Calendar:
“Chiswick House & Gardens Trust continues to be a consistently high performer in horticultural management and maintenance. Exceptionally well done to Head Gardener Geraldine King. This is a record that she should be very proud of”.
Chiswick House Gardens has won Heritage Park of the Year four years running from 2016 – 2019 and always comes back from the judging with a clutch of awards, though last night’s event was held online.
Chiswick House and Gardens Trust Director Xanthe Arvanitakis said:
“I am absolutely delighted that our incredibly hard working, enthusiastic and dedicated staff and volunteer teams have been awarded Gold – what a fantastic result! The whole process: preparing to be judged, the judging and feedback are really important as they provide us with a clear benchmark on how we are doing and where we can improve.”
She described Estate Garden Manager Geraldine King as “a superstar” and someone who “leads from the front”.
“I am delighted that the hard work, commitment and endeavours of the whole of the Trust team and volunteers has been rewarded with Gold medals for our Gardens, our Kitchen Garden and our community work.
“The gardening team were joined by office and House staff, Good Gym, and several community groups to go the extra mile to gain these awards. Top team, top volunteers and top gardens.”
The Kitchen Garden is open Thursday – Sunday until 31 October and re-opens in Spring 2022. The Gardens are open every day from dawn till dusk.
