Three people die in fire in White City

Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters responded to the fire

Three people have died in a fire in White City. London Fire Brigade were called to the fire on New Zealand Way this evening.

Firefighters rescued three men from the burning building, but two were pronounced dead at the scene while the third died later in hospital.

Speaking from the scene, Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne said:

“The fire involved a single storey pavilion, with just over half of the structure damaged by the fire. Three men were rescued from the building by firefighters and treated on scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.

“Sadly, two of the men were declared dead at the scene. The third man was taken to hospital for further treatment but was later declared dead.

“The Brigade received the first of 19 calls reporting the fire at 6.52pm. Control officers mobilised crews from North Kensington, Acton, Chiswick and surrounding fire stations to the scene. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by 9.25pm”.

Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters responded to the fire at the pavilion behind Shepherd’s Church and White City Community Centre. The building is understood to have been derelict.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade’s specialist fire investigation officers and the Metropolitan Police Service.

Update

As of Monday 22 June at 4.30pm the police were still working with the London Fire Brigade to determine the cause of the fire, and a crime scene remains in place.

Officers are working with international partners to identify and notify all next of kin.
