Officers accused of using ‘unnecessary and disproportionate force’ causing injury during an arrest

Two Metropolitan Police officers in the West Area Command Unit have been charged with assault, accused of using ‘unnecessary and disproportionate force’ during an arrest in Southall.

PC Jason Mugg, 30, and former PC Darren Boast, 40, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 16 September. They were bailed to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on Wednesday, 14 October.

It is alleged that during a vehicle stop and subsequent arrest three years ago, on 14 August 2023, they used unnecessary and disproportionate force against a 34-year-old man during a vehicle stop and subsequent arrest.

The man sustained injuries requiring hospital treatment.

PC Mugg is attached to the West Area Command Unit. Former PC Boast was attached to the same unit at the time of the incident.

Both officers were charged with assault causing actual bodily harm on Wednesday 5 August 2026 following an investigation into the incident by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.
