Gunnerbury Park and Museum

The park is open daily from 7.00am – dusk. The museum is open with reduced hours, Thursday - Sunday, 12.00pm - 4.00pm. The original Gunnersbury House was built by Sir John Maynard, a lawyer and politician during the time of Oliver Cromwell. In the 18th century Princess Amelia, daughter of George II, used it as her summer home. After her death the original house was pulled down and replaced by two mansions. A modernist figurative artist, Madeline Green grew up and lived most of her life in Ealing – where she helped to found the Ealing Art Guild, known today as the Ealing Art Group. From 1906 she studied at the prestigious drawing and painting schools at the Royal Academy of Arts, at a time when John Singer Sargent, John William Waterhouse and George Clausen were visiting teachers, and where she twice won awards for her exceptionally life-like sketches.
