West London charity joins National Park City to create garden at Hampton Court festival

Cultivate London creates ‘inspirational’ garden 

Cultivate London, the gardening charity based in the boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow, is working with London National Park City to create a garden for this year’s Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival.

The garden, designed by Yoni Carnice, will be in a new category: ‘Gardens of Curiosity.’ The landscape designer hopes to pique visitors’ curiosity with a display which integrates edible and medicinal plant varieties, to engage all five senses.

The ‘Aster of Senses’ garden, on show at Hampton Court from Tuesday 1- Sunday 6 July, encourages people to reimagine urban spaces as ‘hubs for biodiversity’ and Cultivate London are growing many of the plants.

Yoni said: “My interest in horticulture stems from a deep appreciation for the way gardens can support biodiversity and foreground cultural narratives.

“I have always been inspired by the dynamic relationship between people, plants, and place”.

The garden will feature native UK plants grown using peat-free compost, and uses reclaimed materials such as concrete slabs as communal seating.

As a commitment to the sustainability of the project, all plants will be rehomed to projects across London following the end of the show.
