Work has begun on the building of a new 16-storey development on Capital Interchange Way.

The site is to the west of the Citroen garage site on a former scaffolders’ yard, near Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre. LB Hounslow gave planning approval for the development in April 2020.

The plans were originally submitted in 2018 after an earlier scheme that proposed towers 22-storeys high incorporating a bus garage was scrapped. Progress has been slow during the pandemic, though cranes have been at the site for some time.

The development will include 116 one-bedroom units, 272 two-bedroom and 32 three-bedroom. The project will be developed by Telford Homes and Catalyst by Design and will also provide 45,000 sq. ft of commercial and retail space.

There will be three residential blocks which will sit above space intended for mixed-use, with a commercial development at the northern end of the site next to the A4/M4. There will be a linking podium base containing shops with street frontage, car and cycle parking. The developers promise residents will have access to outdoor recreational spaces and landscaped gardens.

Developers ‘pleased’ to start work

Philip Jenkins, Executive Director of Development at Peabody, said:

“After much planning, we are pleased start work on this exciting development with Telford homes. Once complete, Capital Interchange Way will blend seamlessly into Brentford, both adding to and complementing the ongoing regeneration in the area.

“There will be much on offer for future residents – stylish new homes, beautifully landscaped outdoor spaces, and excellent access to nearby shops, transport links and visitor attractions. We look forward to welcoming residents to this fantastic new neighbourhood in 2025.”

Jerome Geoghegan, Group Land Planning Director at Telford Homes, added:

“Working alongside Catalyst to deliver this project, supplying high-quality affordable housing in a prime location, has been a delight. We have spent a long time in the planning process, ensuring that everything is perfect before work commences and we are pleased to see our vision beginning to come to life.

“With excellent transport links, Capital Interchange Way will deliver future buyers a range of exciting amenities, offering a thriving neighbourhood just a stone’s throw away from the development.”
