ABOUT THE CHISWICK CALENDAR
The Chiswick Calendar is a Community Interest Company which celebrates life in Chiswick. The website has a What’s On guide where local organisations can list their events for free, News and Features about Chiswick, Book, Film and Theatre reviews and Blogs and Podcasts by guest columnists.
For people who may be new to the area, This Is Chiswick highlights some of the people, places and societies which make this part of west London such an interesting place to live.
We operate a Club Card scheme to encourage people to support local businesses. We also put on our own events, including art exhibitions, current affairs debates and a weekly Jazz club in the Boston Room of George IV.
As a Community Interest Company, we have been recognised by Companies House as providing a community resource. Any profit we make has to go back in the pot for the benefit of the community.
Meet the Team
Bridget Osborne is the Editor of The Chiswick Calendar. She worked for the BBC for more than 30 years as a journalist in radio, television and online.
Winner of a Sony award for her work on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours, she produced radio programmes as diverse as Midweek, Any Questions and Desert Island Discs before moving to television to produce the hard hitting interview programme HARDtalk on BBC World TV, which she did for 12 years.
Since leaving the BBC in 2014 she has trained journalism students in Media Law, made a documentary history series The History of Africa with Zeinab Badawi and set up The Chiswick Calendar, as well as being a founder director of the Chiswick Flower Market.
Nick Raikes is Co-Director of The Chiswick Calendar. Having gone to Chiswick School, he had the idea for The Chiswick Calendar in 2014 and set it up with Bridget. He now works at the BBC as a video journalist with BBC Politics at Westminster.
James graduated from Hull University in 2018 with a First (BSc Hons) degree in Computer Science. Working with Dawn, he solved a a lot of the tech issues involved in upgrading The Chiswick Calendar website to a faster, more reliable and safer site with a new host in November 2019. He continues to fiddle with the back end of the site.
Dawn is the Chiswick Calendar web developer. She has a BA(Hons) in Graphic Design and a background in publishing, having worked as an in-house designer for Thomson and Scholastic over a period of ten years. Now working as a freelance designer she divides her time between publishing projects and web design.
We put on our own events, which have included current affairs debates with the main candidates in recent General Elections, discussions on Business Rates, Brexit and Cycleway 9, but also Cheese & Wine tasting, a talk on the history of gin distilling in this area, discussions with local authors, An Evening with Wayne Sleep and our exhibitions at the Clayton Hotel Chiswick.
Our photography exhibition Chiswick Through the Camera Lens in the spring and art exhibition Chiswick In Pictures in the autumn, have now become annual events, showcasing the work of local artists and photographers.
We also run monthly Jazz at George IV nights in collaboration with jazz promoter Larry Pryce of Live Music To Go, on the first Thursday of the month in the Boston Room at George IV in Chiswick High Rd.
We also host a Media Club in the Wellesley Room of the Pilot pub in Wellesley Rd. Open to all, journalists and non-journalists alike; anyone who likes getting stuck in to current affairs debates. Chaired by experienced journalists, the interviewee or panel of experts explore the issues which face journalists in reporting the news.
Fancy a free tour of Sipsmith’s distillery or Fuller’s brewery? Discount on meals in Chiswick restaurants or on goods and services? We operate a Club Card scheme which enables local businesses to offer deals and discounts to local residents. Subscribe to our weekly newsletter and you will be entitled to a free Club Card.
