Gunnersbury Park & Museum has announced it will be opening its new café on Monday 5 January on the site of the previous café which burned down five years ago, next to the entrance to Gunnersbury Museum on Popes Lane.

No one was hurt in the fire and the two 19th Century Rothschild carriages survived, saved by firefighters, but coming as it did on top of Covid, the fire was a significant financial blow to the park, requiring a fundraising campaign to rebuild the café and keep the recently refurbished house open to the public.

The long-awaited opening of the new café is a collaboration between the park’s management and Ealing-based sustainable food supplier The Pure Food Co. on a ten-year lease.

Pure Foods say they use only ‘Grade A’ meat, and none with added water and salts; they employ chefs to cook and create their own sandwich fillings fresh, rather than buying them in; they like to rotate their menu at least twice a year, ‘to keep the range fresh and seasonal’; and they ’embrace new food trends’.

Called ‘Pure in the Park’, the café promises to offer up ‘a family and wallet-friendly menu including freshly made breakfast bagels, vibrant mezze boxes and crowd-pleasing Smash burgers’.

“Another compelling reason to visit Gunnersbury Park & Museum”

David Bowler, CEO, Gunnersbury Museum & Park Development Trust said:

“We believe this partnership will not only benefit our community and Estate but give visitors from across London and beyond another compelling reason to visit Gunnersbury Park & Museum.”

The cafe will favour local suppliers, offering artisan coffee from Doppio, craft beers from Mad Squirrel, a fresh deli bar, cocktails, tea, homemade smoothies and a range of soft drinks.

It will also distribute leftover food to charities and local food banks and work with the museum and community gardening team to make use of produce grown on site, demonstrating Pure Food’s seriousness about environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

Child and dog friendly

‘Designed to appeal to adults, little ones and furry friends, Pure in the Park is both child and dog friendly. The spacious interior offers inside and outside seating with a generous patio and playground for alfresco dining and playtime’.

Ilan Breger, Director of The Pure Food Co. said:

“Gunnersbury Park is the perfect location for our new flagship café named ‘Pure in the Park’.

“We are excited about collaborating with the Gunnersbury team and promise a high-quality, affordable and diverse menu to all visitors. Together with my team we look forward to meeting the local community and making Pure in the Park a destination of choice.”

The park’s management say all revenue received from Pure in the Park Ltd ‘will go towards the essential upkeep and maintenance of Gunnersbury Museum & Park to ensure continued enjoyment by all park users’.
